Job Opportunity: Manufacturing Engineer

Summary:

This position is responsible for providing scientific and engineering specialization to drive technical concepts towards practical, beneficial implementation in a lab and manufacturing setting. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for coordinating, sampling, and qualifying new and existing production tools to be released to manufacturing. This includes, but is not limited to, adapting to new control systems, understanding current PLC automated systems, and establishing a controlled process at quoted cycle with acceptable scrap rates, completed specifications, written work instructions, and start up/shut down procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, verify, and implement product design and manufacturing solutions to satisfy a variety of market requirements
  • Participate in a “hands on” lab and manufacturing environment
  • Coordinate and manage activities concerned with technical developments
  • Understand PLC systems and troubleshoot equipment by going through LADDER logic
  • Participate in management and strategy sessions as requested to help guide product development efforts
  • Assists production activities in the manufacturing facility
  • Assists with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, design, and optimization
  • Optimize production methods for new or modified products
  • Design, build, and monitor product test equipment including enhancement of tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures
  • Coordinate equipment reliability issues with maintenance
  • Work with Quality to minimize scrap and waste and to maximize first pass quality
  • Interface with Corporate Engineering/Product Development to schedule and monitor necessary testing and development support
  • Successfully sample, debug, and qualify new and existing complex prototype/production tools
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge in plastic materials / additives and related processes required
  • At least two years of practical experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Fast learner, possess the drive and willingness to get the job done under tight deadlines
  • Experience with VFDs is preferred
  • Project management experience
  • Possess a high level of technical aptitude and ability to understand engineering, design and product performance issues
  • Ability to utilize PLC systems, CAD/3D drawing software
  • Adequate verbal, written, and analytical skills
  • Available to travel as needed

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work in an industrial production and transportation environment requiring multiple levels of PPE, including, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection and other as required by specific tasks
  • Occasionally required to stand for extended periods and capable of lifting 50-80 lbs.
  • Required to work and operate equipment in all weather conditions
